Claim Checker Guide

How to use the TSB Claim Checker, understand your results, and know its limits.

How to check claimsUnderstanding the resultsSources and limitationsVerification and public recordsFor consumers and brandsQuestions and corrections

01 / GET STARTED

Two Ways to Check

  1. 01

    Enter a Product URL

Paste a public product-page URL and select Check Claims. The checker reads available claim wording and ingredient information, then takes you directly to Claims Identified.

  2. 02

    Or Paste an Ingredient List

Select Ingredient List (INCI), paste the list, and select Check Claims. Include claim wording such as “organic” or “cold-pressed,” along with ingredient footnotes. A plain ingredient name alone does not establish a claim.

If a website cannot be read, paste the ingredient list instead. This checks the text provided, not every claim elsewhere on the packaging or website.

02 / UNDERSTAND THE RESULTS

See What Was Identified

Open a result to see the potential claim, its category, and the records that may be needed to support it. Where identified, the result also names the ingredient to which the claim applies.

The checker looks for wording within TSB’s eligible-claims framework. A match is a potential claim to explore, not a final eligibility decision. Eligibility and support must be assessed through the verification process.

The documentation list is a guide to possible supporting records. It does not mean the brand has provided those records or that TSB has reviewed them. Supporting-record items may also appear; these are not verified claims.

A claim about one ingredient does not necessarily apply to the whole product. An identified term such as “Certified Organic” does not mean TSB has confirmed the certificate or its scope.

No claims identified means no eligible claim wording was detected in the information checked. It does not mean the product makes no claims, lacks supporting documentation, or failed verification.

03 / SOURCES AND LIMITATIONS

A Starting Point for Understanding

The checker uses the public product page or ingredient list provided. Some pages block automated access or display information the checker cannot read. Results may miss claims, misidentify wording, or lack context.

Compare results with the current product label and brand information. Formulas, packaging, and claims can change. For product-specific questions, contact the brand.

The checker does not verify claims or assess product safety, effectiveness, allergy risk, or suitability. Results are not a product rating, endorsement, or medical advice. More identified claims do not mean a product is better.

04 / VERIFICATION AND PUBLIC RECORDS

Identification Comes Before Verification

TSB Verified™ requires a separate, independent review of supporting documentation against applicable standards. Using the checker does not submit a review, grant use of the mark, or create a public verification record.

The checker does not determine a product’s TSB verification status. Use the Verified Directory to look for a current public record and confirm the exact product, verified claims, scope, and status.

The absence of a public verification record does not mean a product is unsafe, its claims are false, or it failed review. Participation is voluntary.

05 / YOUR NEXT STEP

For Consumers and Brands

For Consumers

Explore the wording on a product and the types of records that may support it. Ask the brand for clarification or suggest a brand you would like to see participate.

Invite a Brand

For Brands

Use the checker as an early look at potential claims and documentation needs. A verification review considers all eligible claims used to market the product, not only the results shown here.

The Skincare Bureau operates this free tool and offers paid verification and licensing services. Payment does not guarantee a verified outcome.

A brand invitation is a suggestion to TSB for review and possible follow-up. It does not automatically contact the brand or imply agreement to participate. Any email provided with a suggestion is not shared with the brand.

06 / QUESTIONS AND CORRECTIONS

Something Doesn’t Look Right?

Contact TSB with the brand and product name, product URL, wording in question, and the correction requested. Consumers and brands can also raise a source-permission or removal concern.

Please do not send confidential supporting records through the general contact form. Brands submitting documentation for review should use the Brand Portal.
